RCHM member Andrew Flower translated 144 studies on the Chinese Medicine treatment of endometriosis in preparation for this Cochrane review. Two randomised control trials on the safety and effectiveness of Chinese herbal medicine for endometriosis-related pain and infertility were included in it. Cochrane reviews are internationally recognised as being the highest standard of evidence-based healthcare studies. Whilst more rigorous research is required to accurately assess the potential for Chinese herbal medicine in such conditions, the review concluded it had comparable effectiveness, with fewer side-effects, to gestrinone, a medication used in the treatment of endometriosis.
